Sample the best food in Eastern Kentucky prepared by the some of the finest chefs and cooks in the region, while enjoying a great evening of entertainment with Appalatin. Hazard native Steve Sizemore returns to his home as percussionist for Appalatin, which was formed in 2006 in Louisville through band members’ mutual love of the folk music sounds of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Appalatin’s original music is a fusion of Latin and Appalachian folk music from the band member’s homelands in Central America, the Andes and Appalachia. Instrumentation features the guitar, charango, mandolin, Andean flutes, bongos, congas, and cajón. Their songs reflect messages of freedom, community, empowerment, human rights, spirituality, and environmental stewardship. This collaborative event with the Performing Arts Series will assist with raising funding support for the Hazard Perry County Community Ministries (HPCCM). Since 1976, HPCCM has assisted thousands of families through its child development centers, family support programs and homeless shelter. HPCCM’s services help families in need live safe, self-sustaining, and independent lives. Their programs include: Corner Haven Crisis Center; Family Support; Permanent and Transitional Rental Housing; New Beginnings Child Development Center; and Starland School Age Care.
